SmartArt is a word feature that helps us to create a graphical representation of sequential steps in a task or process.

Path: Insert Tab > Illustrations group > SmartArt >choose a SmartArt

You can choose the type of SmartArt you want on the left bar.

How to edit and delete SmartArt in Word

When you add a SmartArt, a Text Pane appears on the left side. This Text Pane gives you options to customize your SmartArt. Options depend on the type of Smart Art. But in all of them, you can delete, edit or add a new field.

The Text Pane can be different for each SmartArt. For example, I add a Horizontal Picture List in the image below.

As you can see, I can add images to this SmartArt. Maybe the other SmartArt doesn’t have this feature, But permanently you can delete a field, edit the text of each area or add a new field from the left Text Pane.

Notice: if you don’t want to use the Text Pane, you can also add a shape or Bullet from the Create Group.

Edit text in SmartArt

Click on the Text in Text Pane and rewrite it. Also, you can double-click on the text in SmartArt and edit it.

Deleting a field in SmartArt

For deleting, click on the field in the Text Pane and press Delete or BackSpace.

Notice: if the text pane does not appear, go to the design tab and click on Text Pane in Create Graphic group. Also, you can hide or show the Text Pane with the small arrow beside the SmartArt.

Customize SmartArt in Word

SmartArt has many options that let you customize your SmartArt.

You can customize your SmartArt with the Design tab and Format tab. These two tabs appear when you click on your SmartArt.

Path: click on your SmartArt > Design Tab > Layouts group > select which layouts you want.

Path: click on your SmartArt > Design Tab > SmartArt Styles group > select which style you want.

Notice: you can change the styles of the shapes and colors in the Format tab.

How to resize SmartArt in Word

Path 1: Click the SmartArt > some points will appear > hover on the points and drag them.

If you want to resize the shapes, you can use this way too :

Path 2: Click the shape you want to resize >go to the Format tab > click on larger or smaller from the shapes group

How to ungroup SmartArt in Word ?

I think it’s not possible in Word. But you can copy your SmartArt into the PowerPoint, go to Group, ungroup the SmartArt, and copy and paste it to your document.

Like the Horizontal picture List, you must choose a SmartArt with this feature.
